Bell Wins Discus At Stanford Invitational

PALO ALTO, Calif. - The University of Missouri track and field team wrapped up day two of the Stanford Invitational here Sunday evening.

The Tigers completed its West Coast swing by breaking a school record and qualifying five athletes for the NCAA Championships.

One day one of competition, junior Ann Marie Brooks became the first Tiger to post an automatic qualifying time this season. She ran 16:06.95 in the 5000 meter run, which is also a career best.

The sophomore-throwing tandem of Christian Cantwell and Russ Bell also recorded provisional marks on the first day of the meet. Cantwell ripped a 62-2.50, while Bell tossed 59-3.5 in the shot put. Bell also set a school record in the hammer with a throw of 198-5. Another sophomore, Kerry Hils also qualified provisionally in the steeplechase with a time of 10:22.54. Hils' mark is a school record.

In today's action, Bell took the top spot in the discus throw at 186-5. Senior Ashley Wysong added her name to the list of Tigers that have posted provisional numbers turning in a time of 2:07.37 in the 800m.

The Tigers return to action Fri., Apr. 6 hosting the Missouri Relays at Walton Stadium.
