Feb. 6, 2001

Columbia, Mo. - Missouri Head Wrestling Coach Brian Smith announced today the addition of a new volunteer assistant wrestling coach. Scott Schatzman will join forces with Coach Smith and Asssistant Coaches Bart Horton and Lee Pritts to guide the Tigers for the remainder of the year.

Schatzman is a recent graduate from Northwestern University, earning All-American honors three times during his tenure with the Wildcats--in 1996, 1998, and 2000. He redshirted in 1997 and suffered a season-ending shoulder injury in 1999. He hopes to attend law school at MU in the fall.

"Scott brings a wealth of wrestling knowledge through competition in his freestyle and collegiate careers," said Head Coach Brian Smith. "He is a very focused individual who has had great success on and off the mat. His drive and commitment will help the current Tigers enhance themselves as total student athletes."

St. Louis and other Missouri wrestling fans may know Schatzman better from his high school days at Parkwood Central, where he was a four-time state champion with a perfect 149-0 record. (`92-'95)

Schatzman currently works for state senator John Loudon in Jefferson City.
