Hello Tiger Alumni
9/26/2000 12:00:00 AM | Women's Swimming and Diving
As you may have already guessed MU's first swimming and diving season of the new millennium is under way. The University of Missouri swimming and diving team is looking good and already training hard for their upcoming meets. There have been a lot of changes on the pool deck this past year. Anne Kampfe, who for the past year has been working in sports information office in the athletic department, has joined the Missouri squad as the new assistant coach. Kampfe is no stranger to swimming. She swam for the University of Michigan where she was very successful receiving All-American honors ten times throughout her career. Her swimming accomplishments were highlighted with a fourth place finish in the 400 IM at the 1996 Olympic swimming trials. Anne coached for two years as a graduate assistant for Michigan before heading south to Missouri.
Another new face on the pool deck is the diving coach, Greg Triefenbach. Triefenbach, a native to St. Louis, dove at Louisiana State University where he was a five time All-American. Greg then went on to coach at Virginia Tech for three years before deciding to return to his home state and coach the tigers for the 2000 season.
Despite the many changes in the program this year Mizzou has been fortunate to keep it's strong base. Head Coach Brian Hoffer is entering his ninth season as the tiger's leader. Coach Hoffer has helped revamp the record board with 100 new records since 1992. Don't worry, there are still a few of the old ones up. The men and women's team will also be trying to get it's 100th victory since 92. "Thanks" from Coach Hoffer to all of you that helped.
As swimming and diving alumni you have a special place in Missouri history, as we would like to recognize your impact on the program. All of you were tiger swimmers or divers at some point in your lives and the team would like to show their appreciation for everything you have done by inviting you to Columbia, October 14th and 15th. This is in fact homecoming weekend which means there will be plenty of festivities.
We also expect you to come with your Speedo's, as you will be the guest of honor for Saturday's alumni meet. This meet is not like those you might remember as you will get to choose what events you want to swim and what boards you want to dive off of. Just make sure you are ready to swim that 200 fly if that is what you decide to write down! It will be a fun weekend for you to reminisce about your swimming days or just kick back and meet some new people. Tiger Alumni young and old, we invite you to join us for a weekend of fun! See you in October.
Sincerely,
