Women's Tennis Gets Fall Season Off to Solid Start

St. Louis, Mo. - The University of Missouri women's tennis team got its 2000 fall season underway over the weekend at the Billiken Classic, hosted by Saint Louis University.
Five of seven Tiger competitors came out of the weekend at better than .500. Sophomore Andrea Friedman went a perfect 4-0 and won the #5-#6 singles draw, beating teammate Maria Zelenovich in the championship match.
Two MU freshmen made quite an impact for Tiger Head Coach Blake Starkey. Freshman Jessica Ferguson won her first three matches before falling in the semi-finals to Alesia Mikalsyeva of Illinois State, 3-6, 2-6. Fellow freshman Cassie Drake also went 3-1 in her first collegiate competition.
