Cape Girardeau, Mo. - The University of Missouri Volleyball team continued their winning ways against non-conference opponents on Monday night as they picked up a three-set win over Southeast Missouri State University, 15-5, 15-6, and 15-6. The win moves the Tigers to 9-0 and continues the second best start in school history.
The match was held in the Show Me Center on the campus of Southeast Missouri State and was the only match being played in the venue during the 2000 season. A fairly large crowd of 312 witnessed the Tigers take the first two games with relative ease, but fell behind in the third game 4-1. However, Mizzou continued to bomb away with sophomore Christi Myers putting down five of her nine kills in the penultimate set to seal the victory.
Offensively, MU carried out a balanced attack and was led by sophomore Lisa Morris who pounded out 13 kills and registered three block assists. Junior Krista Johnson pitched in with 10 kills while also knocking down six block assists.
On the defensive side, senior Annette Luyten led the team with nine digs while junior Kristen Johnson nailed six block assists along with her eight kills. Senior setter Heather Gerber continued to add to her career assist lead handing out 38 assists bringing her career total to 3,978.
The Tigers are now 9-0 overall, the second best start to a season in school history, as they prepare for Big 12 conference play. Mizzou continues it's busy week on Wednesday hosting Texas A&M at 7:00 p.m. in the Hearnes Center before traveling to Lincoln to take on the Cornhuskers of Nebraska on Saturday.
