COLUMBIA, Mo.- University of Missouri sophomore-to-be MATT FERRARELLI was not expected to make the British Olympic Team, but his performance over the weekend at the Olympic Swimming Trials Sheffied, Great Britain proved that Ferrarelli is one of the top swimmers in England. After coming just less than a second from making the Olympics in the 400-meter individual medley on Thursday, Ferrarelli placed fourth in the 200 IM on Saturday.
A native of Retford Notts, England, Ferrarelli entered Saturday's 200 IM final as the sixth seed after swimming the race in two minutes, 7.66 seconds in the semi-finals on Friday. Ferrarelli's fourth place finish on Saturday came in a time of 2:06.55, over a second faster than his semi-final swim and over four seconds faster than his preliminary swim in that event.
Ferrarelli, who was a Big 12 finalist in both individual medley events last year, is expected to be one of the headliners on Missouri's 2000-01 men's team.
