COLUMBIA, Mo. - Missouri swimming and diving coach BRIAN HOFFER officially announced the hiring of 10-time all-American ANNE KAMPFE as an assistant coach. Kampfe will be Hoffer's number one assistant as she will head up all recruiting efforts, serve as the team's academic coordinator and coach both the men's and women's teams.
Kampfe swam for the University of Michigan from 1993-97. While earning all-American accolades, Kampfe was a five-time Big Ten champion and was ranked among the top 15 swimmers in the world in the 400 individual medley. She was honored as Michigan's "female athlete of the year" in 1997 and was team captain for the Wolverines. Kampfe was also chosen to represent the United States in the World University Games on two different occasions. She was named the U.S. team captain at the 1997 games.
Kampfe also enjoyed success on the international level. She qualfied for the U.S. Olympic Trials in 1992 and 1996 and was a finalist at both meets in the 400 individual medley.
"After doing a nation-wide search, I felt Anne was the best person for the job at Missouri," said Hoffer. "Anne's experience and knowledge of the sport of swimming, as well collegiate athletics, makes her a great asset to this program. I believe she will help take Missouri swimming to the next level."
Kampfe, a native of Decatur, Ill., earned her bachelor's degree in sports management and communications in 1997. Following her swimming career, she remained at Michigan to earn her masters degree in sports administration. Kampfe was selected by the Collegiate Swimming Coaches Association of America as a two-time Academic All-American and was a four-time Academic All-Big Ten selection.
Kampfe served this past year as the assistant sports information director at Missouri where she was the media contact for swimming and diving and track and field.
