Hutchinson, Kan. - The University of Missouri men's golf team stands in 10th place after two rounds of play at the 2000 Big 12 Championships, which began with 36 holes of play today at Prairie Dunes Golf Club, located in Hutchinson, Kan. The final 18 holes will be contested Tuesday.
Mizzou stood in eighth place after posting a team score of 297 for the morning round, but slipped to 10th in the standings despite improving in the afternoon to a 295. MU's two-round total of 592 left them 33 strokes back of leader Oklahoma State, which shot a record 559 to take a 10-stroke lead over defending champ Kansas.
Individually, junior Tom Vogt led the Tigers, as he is tied for 26th place overall after a two round total of 148. Vogt fired an even-par 72 in the morning, and followed with a 76 in the afternoon. His 72 was nine strokes better than his previous best at Prairie Dunes.
A trio of Tiger sophomores were separated by one stroke apiece, beginning with Cory Ewert, who is tied for 33rd place with a 149 total. Ewert shot an even-par 72 in the afternoon, after opening with a three-over 75. Just one stroke back of Ewert was Mark McBride, who shot identical rounds of 75 to post a 150 total, which left him tied for 39th place. Next up in the trio was Neal Stafford, who shot rounds of 75 and 76. His 151 total left him tied for 45th place.
Senior David Suggs is still battling a set of injured ribs he suffered earlier this month, and struggled to a 10-over par 82 in the morning round. He recovered nicely in the afternoon to shoot even par, at 72, but his 154 total left him tied for 49th place overall.
