KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Clarence Gilbert pulled the trigger on the 3-pointer again to score 26 points as Missouri beat Texas Tech 80-47 Thursday in the first-round of the Big 12 tournament to stay in contention for an NCAA bid.
Gilbert made 6-of-12 3-point attempts, including 4-of-7 tries in the first half to score 14 points, as Missouri (18-11) bids to make the NCAA tournament in coach Quin Snyder's first year.
Gilbert fell one point short of his career-high 27 points set Jan. 22 against Kansas - another night when his 3-pointer just kept falling. Gilbert made seven 3-pointers in that game.
It was the most 3-pointers Gilbert has attempted - he has tried 11 in four different games.
Kareem Rush had 13 points and Keyon Dooling added 12 for Missouri.
James Ware scored 17 for the Red Raiders (12-16).
Rayford Young had 14 points in the first half for Texas Tech, but the Red Raiders made 14 turnovers in the half and consistently had the ball stolen away and seemed to get beat for every loose ball.
Young did not score in the second half.
Texas Tech finished with 26 turnovers for the game.
The Tigers led 57-34 with 12:15 left in the game after Dooling and Rush - their two dazzling young players - combined to score six straight points.
Dooling, a sophomore, scored a layup after a stop-and-go move in the lane. Then the freshman Rush hit a jumper and, after yet another Red Raiders turnover, picked up his dribble after driving from the left side to hit another short jumper.
It was 59-34 with 11:34 to play when the Tigers found Rush alone under the basket after Missouri had again stolen the ball.
An alley-oop pass from Rush to Dooling with about 10 1/2 minutes to play made it 61-35.
Texas Tech trailed 24-14 in the first half when Young had a chance to get Texas Tech within eight, but Dooling came out of nowhere to block his layup attempt on a breakaway.
The lead went back to 29-14 with 5:38 left when Gilbert hit a 3-pointer.
Young hit a pair of 3-pointers to get the Red Raiders within 33-22 with 3:54 left in the half, but the Tigers were back up 39-24 with 3:15 to play when Gilbert hit a 3-pointer and Brian Grawer made two free throws after Brodney Kennard, who had 10 rebounds, was called for setting an illegal screen.
