Leslie Hoh accomplished more in her freshman campaign than most Tiger newcomers could ever hope to achieve. Whether or not she earned All-American honors, Hoh learned a lot as she now prepares for the U.S.A. Olympic Trials this summer.
Hoh, swimming in her first-ever NCAA Championships, made the trip to Indianapolis, Ind. as the lone Missouri representative. She competed in the 200 IM, 400 IM and 100 Breast marking the first time in recent memory a MU swimmer competed in three events. Here finishes were nothing to write home about, the experience itself was rather beneficial.
"We learned a lot together this season," head coach Brian Hoffer said. "It was the first time I have ever tapered her and then to try a double taper in her first year can be tricky. For her to be at the meet and get a chance to see the other swimmers competing will only help her down the road. She can pull from this meet at the Trials this summer."
She had already turned in a stellar freshman campaign by just qualifying for nationals. She established two new individual school records, swam on two relays that set new school records, set four MU Natatorium records, earned All-Big 12 honors as well as being named December's Big 12 Swimmer of the Month, just to mention a few. Not too bad for a first-year Tiger.
Both Hoh and Hoffer are looking forward to this summer as well as the upcoming three years. After a spectacular freshman season, both coach and swimmer can not wait to see what lies on the horizon for both Hoh and the rest of the Tiger team.
