COLUMBIA, MO, March ___ -- Sophomore shortstop Ryan Stegall drove in six runs during a nine-run first inning and the Missouri Tigers (8-5) coasted to a 15-6 victory over the Western Illinois Leathernecks (1-7), Wednesday afternoon at Taylor Stadium at Simmons Field.
Stegall batted twice in the first inning as the Tigers sent 14 men to the plate. He hit a three-run home run his first time up, then later clubbed a bases-loaded double that drove in another three runs. His six runs batted in in one inning set a Missouri school record. He finished the day 3-for-5 and climbed into a three-way lead for the team RBI lead with Landon Brandes and J.R. Warner. Each of them has 16 RBIs.
Freshman outfielder Jayce Tingler and Brandes also had three hits on the day, while Warner, Jon Williams and Luke Cassis had two hits apiece. Tingler walked, and singled twice in his first three trips to the plate, running his streak of reaching base to nine consecutive at bats over a three-game period. He lined out hard to shortstop to end the streak in the fourth inning, then singled and walked his next two times up.
Sophomore Brian Ackerson pitched the first three innings and earned his first victory.
