
MU Swimmers Begin Competition at Big 12 Championships

COLUMBIA, Mo.- The Missouri women's swimming and diving team began competition this morning at the 2000 Big 12 Championships in College Station, Texas. Eight Tigers have qualified for tonight's consolation and final races in three different events.
Missouri will be well represented in tonight's finals of the 200 individual medley. Freshman Leslie Hoh will be seeded sixth tonight after turning in a time of two minutes, 4.10 seconds in this morning's preliminary race. Joining Hoh will be senior Tawney Larm, who finished eighth overall with a time of two minutes, 5.55 seconds.
In the consolation races tonight, four Tigers will fill out the field of eight in the 50 freestyle. Juniors Jeanna Willi (23.45) and Kim Lambert (23.72) finished 10th and 11th overall this morning. Lambert's time was a personal best. Also qualifying for tonight's consolation race was sophomore Tara Brooks with a personal-best time of 23.98 seconds and freshman Ellen Cross who also turned in a personal-best time of 24.00 seconds.
Sophomore Molly Vetter is seeded first in tonight's 500 freestyle consolation race. Vetter just missed reaching the finals after posting a personal-best time four minutes, 56.01 seconds. Freshman Katy Chandler will also race tonight in the 500 free for Mizzou.
