Columbia, Mo. -- Blake Starkey, head coach of the University of Missouri tennis program, announced the signing of two players to national letters-of-intent during the recent early signing period (Nov. 8-15).
The Tigers will gain the services of Lucie Ruskova and Mary Barry next season. Ruskova, from Prague in the Czech Republic, was a semifinalist in the Czech Republic National tournament this past summer.
Barry, from Jackson, Miss., has been listed a top 100 blue-chip recruit.
"I am very excited about these two additions. I cannot say enough good things about either of them," said Starkey. "Lucie will bring the Tigers a lot of international experience. Mary is a great athlete and has had a very solid junior career. This is exactly what our team needs. We are very happy to be adding both of them. Besides being rock-solid players, both Mary and Lucie are great kids, and we cannot wait until they are here."
Missouri will open the 2001 part of its season playing Pittsburgh and Duquesne in Pittsburgh Jan. 27.
