
Justin Smith Named Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week

COLUMBIA, Mo.- Missouri junior defensive end Justin Smith was named the Big 12's Defensive Player of the Week on Monday. Smith, who had the best game of his career on Saturday at Baylor, shared the award this week with Oklahoma linebacker Torrance Marshall.
Smith, a preseason All-American, became Missouri's career quarterback sack leader on Saturday. He now has 21 1/2 sacks for his career after sacking Baylor quarterback Josh Zachry four times in the first half. Smith had 12 tackles on the day, seven of those were for 33 yards in losses. The Jefferson City native leads the conference with 22 tackles for 114 yards lost.
Texas running back Hodges Mitchell was named the Big 12's Offensive Player of the Week and Texas Tech linebacker Lawrence Flugence was tabbed the Special Teams Player of the Week.
