Columbia, Mo. - University of Missouri head softball coach Jay Miller announced last week that three student-athletes from the 1999-2000 softball team have been selected as Academic All-Americans by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association.
For Christy Skouby, this is not an altogether new occurrence. Skouby also received the honor in 1998 as a sophomore, along with All-Conference first baseman honors. Last year, she was in the top-25 in nearly every Missouri batting category, and split time between first base and right field. Skouby graduated with a degree in pre-physical therapy last May.
Karen Williams, the now-senior outfielder and team captain, also gets the job done both on and off the field. Along with a .303 batting average and 11 stolen bases in 12 attempts last year, Williams had a perfect fielding percentage. The pre-med major was named Academic All-Big 12 in 1999.
Pre-physical therapy major Ingrid Werner was just the third freshman Tiger to ever be named to the Academic All-American list, the others being Brandi Resa in 1992 and Stephanie Falk in 1998.
"This is the third year in a row with three players as Academic All-Americans," said Miller. "It speaks well of the commitment we have of our student-athletes and the dedication they put in both on and off the field."
