Tigers Prepare for Another Weekend of Conference Play

The Missouri women's soccer team continues Big 12 play this weekend as they take-on Colorado and Texas Tech. The Tigers host the Buffaloes Fri., Oct. 6 at 4:00 p.m. Colorado is 5-7 with a 1-3 Big 12 record. The Missouri-Texas Tech game is scheduled to begin Sun., Oct. 8 at 12:00 p.m. The Red Raiders are also 2-2 in the conference and post a 4-8 record. Both games will be played in the Audrey J. Walton Soccer Complex.

Recent Results

The Tigers dropped two games to No. 3 ranked Nebraska and Big 12 conference foe Iowa State to bring their season record to 6-6 with a 2-2 league mark. Missouri fell 2-0 against the Huskers and 1-0 to the Cyclones.

Missouri reset the single game attendance record over the weekend. Against Nebraska they posted the program's third highest attendance with 887 fans. The Tigers toppled the record against Iowa State boasting 1,105 Missouri spectators.

Scouting the Tigers

Missouri has taken 169 shots boasting an impressive 78 shots on goal and a .462 shots on goal percentage. The Tigers are scoring 1.4 goals and 14.1 shots per game. Missouri continues to be a strong second half team scoring 13 of 17 goals in the second half. The Tiger goalkeeping staff has made 75 saves on the season.

Knockout Nikki

All-American Nikki Thole has been named one of fifteen finalists for the Missouri Athletic Club Collegiate Player of the Year award. This award is presented by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America and Adidas recognizing the nation's best Division I soccer player. The winner for this award will by done by ballot by NSCAA Division I members and will be honored at an awards banquet at the Missouri Athletic Club on Fri., Jan. 5, 2001.

Adding to her nomination, Thole continues to top the charts at Missouri, she leads Missouri with five assists 13 points and is second on the team with four goals. The senior posts a .514 shots on goal percentage with 19 of 37 shots saved.

Dynamite Davis

Freshman Adriene Davis continues to lead the team with five goals and 13 points. The forward also leads Mizzou with a .680 shots on goal percentage taking 17 of her 25 shots to the net. She is second for the Tigers with three assists. The Edmond, Okla., native scored her fifth goal of the season against Oklahoma putting in her second game winner of the season.

MU Defense

Shining on the defensive line against Oklahoma was Colorado native Suzy Probst. The sophomore made two team saves keeping the Tigers in the game. She skillfully deflected a shot taken off of a cornerkick. Goalkeeper Megan Duncan blocked a shot taken from the cross, but before she could reposition for another save a Sooner forward took aim. She was stopped however when Probst deflected the ball with a header. In Probst's second save of the game, an Oklahoma forward lured Duncan from the box then dribbled the ball around her for the shot. Probst slid into the box redirecting the ball with her abdomen for the save.

In the Box

Freshman Megan Duncan has served as the Tigers starting goalkeeper in the last four outings. She is 2-4 on the season owning two shutouts against conference rivals Oklahoma State and Oklahoma. She leads the team with 595:54 minutes in the box and a 1.66 goals against average. Duncan has defended 37 saves and allowed 11 goals.

Missouri Tidbits

* Midfielder Steph Brennan climbs into the team's No. 3 spot with two goals and one assist for five points. She also posts a .625 shot on goal percentage with five of eight shots on goal.

?Amy Timmermann follows Brennan with four points. She owns two goals on the season, both of which were game winners.

?Defender Dyana Russell posts herself in the points column aiding the Tigers with an assists. She serves as Missouri's workhorse in the backfield, continually shutting down the oppositions' offensive leaders.
