Wrestling Spilts Two At Central Michigan

Mt. Pleasant, Mich. - The University of Missouri wrestling team split two matches Sunday at the Central Michigan/Hampton Inn ?Duels?. Missouri?s record now stands at 3-6 on the season. The Tigers defeated Findlay University (OH), 27-9 in the first match of the day, but dropped their second dual 26-10 to the 21st-ranked Central Michigan squad, 26-10.
Senior JEFF URBAN (149) and sophomore KEVIN HERRON (197) each won two matches for MU, improving their records to 18-8 and 14-8 respectively. For Urban, a pin of No. 16 Jeremy Harden of Central Michigan in overtime will move the Tiger senior up the national rankings from his current position of No. 20. Herron also recorded a pin, his team-leading third, only 1:17 into his match with Findlay?s Brian Scislo. Herron also recorded a 13-2, major decision over CMU?s Brett Faustman earning a spot, along with Urban, on the All-Tournament team.
Sophomore JOHN KOPNIKSY (174), ranked No. 14 entering dual competition, defeated Findlay?s Dinos Angelas , 3-2 to improve to 24-1, but then dropped a 2-1 match to No. 6 Ryan Cunningham of Central Michigan. Kopnisky?s two losses, to go with 24 victories, have come at the hands of the No. 6 wrestler, Cunningham, and No. 2 Bryon Tucker of Oklahoma.
The Tigers next wrestle on Saturday, January 15 when they travel to Providence, Rhode Island to take part in the Brown University Duals. MU will face Franklin and Marshall at 11a.m., followed by duals with Army and Brown. Central Missouri State comes to the Hearnes Center on January 27 at 7 p.m. for Missouri?s next home match.
