On Iowa State?s Marcus Fizer: ?We will face probably one of the best players we will see all year in Marcus Fizer. He?s a guy that?s capable of controlling a game, which is challenging. Good players shooting around the perimeter are also a reflection of how good he is. He is a dominant player. No one guy can play him, our team needs to come together and play him.?
On playing Iowa State: ?We need to keep doing what we?ve been doing, meaning executing on the offensive end and playing with a lot fire. Coach Eustachy is saying it will be a game of toughness. I think that is probably true. I think most games are like that. Our kids play pretty tough. I think there is a match-up with the guards. They play three guards. As far as the Fizer factor, that?s where the game turns a little bit.?
On scouting Big 12 teams: ?We?re actually turning all the scouting over to our kids for personnel. There?s a big difference between watching Iowa State on tape and, for some of our guys, having played against them. There comes a point when you almost don?t need a scouting report. I think our kids are familiar (with the other Big 12 teams), and I will rely on that a little. I think player?s instincts are pretty good, most of the time.?
On shooting: ?I think you can focus too much on (a poor shooting night). Shooting is an art form when you get to a certain point. I would be more concerned if we were taking good shots than if we were missing bad shots. With the team that we have we have to continue to take the same shots that we?ve been taking. I?ll still go to bat with Brian Grawer shooting threes, if they are open. We are going to live and die by the jump shot a little this year. The question is what kind of jump shots are we getting? Are we getting them after penetration? Are we getting them after a post pass? Things like that are higher percentage shots.?
On the effect of losing two games in a row: ?We lost two early in the year, so we are familiar with that. I don?t think they are too focused on (the losses). Losing two games in a row with the schedule we have, I don?t think they are walking around thinking ?oh no we might lose a third.? They?re thinking ?Shoot we want to beat Iowa State.? I don?t think we are in a defensive posture. I think it is dangerous for this team to focus on outcomes. For one thing up to this point, at 7-5 we knew that if we were that focused on outcomes we would have had a different schedule. You don?t play Kentucky and Illinois and Iowa or open with Princeton and Wisconsin on the road and be worried about outcomes. The sky is not falling. We need to go to Iowa State and take the same shots and play with confidence. I?ll only be worried if we are not playing hard and not playing together. As long as we are doing those two things eventually things will happen.?
