COLUMBIA, MO -- University of Missouri shortstop/relief pitcher Ryan Stegall, a sophomore from Liberty, Mo., has been named a third-team All-American by both the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association and the American Baseball Coaches Association.
Stegall was a third-team selection as a utility player on the NCBWA team and as a shortstop on the ABCA squad. He is the 38th player in Missouri baseball history to achieve All-America status. The last Tiger All-American was outfielder Ryan Fry, who was a second-teamer in 1998.
Stegall started all 57 games at shortstop during the 2000 season during which the Tigers posted a 33-24 record. He hit over .400 and led the Big 12 Conference in hitting for much of the season, and finished the campaign with a .353 batting average, 22 doubles, eight home runs and 57 runs batted in.
As Mizzou's closer out of the bullpen, Stegall set a school record with 12 saves, and also had a 3-1 won-lost record.
