Among some rather windy conditions at the MU Outdoor Tennis Complex, the Missouri Tigers (4-10, 1-7) were nearly swept by the Nebraska Cornhuskers (16-2, 4-2) in an 8-1 decision.
Missouri's only match win came at No. 2 doubles where Andrea Friedman and Julie Thomas defeated Maria Fernandez and Gina Pelazini, 9-8. The Tigers were up 5-3 at one point in the match before allowing Nebraska to win the next two-of-three sets. After that, the match turned into a juggling contest with two ties. Missouri, sitting at 8-7 following a 7-7 tie, allowed the Huskers to come back, tying the match at eight. Fortunately Friedman and Thomas (1-8 in doubles) came up with the tie-breaking win. It was the duo's first win in doubles.
In singles, senior Joni Jordan won her first set at No. 5 before losing the next two to Gina Pelazini. Freshman Kristina Olshanskaya ended her five-match winning streak with a loss to Ndali Ijomah at No. 2.
Missouri will host Oklahoma State on April 7 at 1:00 p.m. Oklahoma State sits just above the Tigers in the conference standings. The Cowboys are 9-3 overall and 2-3 in the conference.
