COLUMBIA, MO -- Freshman Jayce Tingler extended his hitting streak to 14 games and Ralph McCasland held the St. Louis University Billikens to two runs over six innings as the Missouri Tigers won a non-conference baseball game Tuesday night, 16-8 at Taylor Stadium at Simmons Field.
Tingler went 2-for-4, scored three runs, and drove in three runs - two of them on a single to center field during a four-run Missouri fourth inning. The freshman outfielder raised his batting average to .363 - highest this season by any freshman in the Big 12 Conference.
McCasland, who had won four games in relief the last two weeks, started for the first time in a month. He spotted the Billikens (11-16) two first-inning runs, then blanked them over the next five frames, raising his record to 6-2.
St. Louis U. added six runs in the seventh inning off of reliever P.J. McGinnis on four hits - two of them home runs by Adam Shea and pinch-hitter Mike Orrico - and two Tiger errors.
Mizzou shortstop Ryan Stegall went two-for-four, extending his hitting streak to nine games, and drove in four to raise his team-leading RBI total to 41. Ryan Pickett hit his third home run of the season in the seventh inning.
The Tigers (20-11) host Baylor for an important Big 12 Conference series this weekend in Columbia. The Bears, ranked nationally in all three collegiate baseball polls, are tied for second in the Big 12 while MU stands fifth.
Friday's game starts at 7 p.m. Missouri will officially dedicate its new Ralph and Debbie Taylor/Phi Delta Theta Stadium prior to Saturday's 2 p.m. contest. The series concludes with a 1 p.m. game on Sunday. All three games will be televised by College Sports Southwest.
