Swimmers and Divers Close Out Successful Season This Weekend

With only one meet remaining on the docket for the men's swimming and diving team, all but freshman diver James Sweeney are done competing until summer competition resumes. There were numerous positives that came out of the Tigers 1999-2000 season that need to be mentioned.

? MU ended the season with its best record in school history, 6-2

? Mizzou placed 2nd at the Indiana Invite

? Women set 3 new MU Natatorium pool records (400 Medley Relay, 200 Back, 200 Fly, 200 IM)

? At the 2000 Big 12 Champions, MU had one its most successful showings

? finishing 6th with 301 points marking the third consecutive year MU has broken the 300 point barrier

? closest Tigers have ever been to 5th place, 35 points

? first time MU has had two divers final on tower

? 16 swimmers and divers either moved up on the All-Time top 5 or are making their first appearance on the list in a new event (or first time ever)

? There were 50 life time best swims turned in at the conference meet

? MU had two swimmers swim to three NCAA provisional standards

? 3 new school records were set

? Freshman Dane Pedersen - 1650 Free (15:43.08)

? 1 NCAA Diving Zone Qualifier

? 1 Canadian Olympic Trial Qualifier

? Aaron Lo - 50 Free, 100 Free, 100 Breast

? 13 Senior National Cuts were achieved

Even with all these accomplishments. there is still one athlete training for the final meet of his season. Freshman James Sweeney performed extremely well during the season turning in a score at the league championships that qualified him for the NCAA Zone qualifying meet in College Station, Texas, March 9-11. Sweeney will join junior Kristy Wanner and sophomore Erin Wilke on the women's side at the meet.
