Missouri Softball Beats Pacific 7-2

The Missouri Tigers (10-8) closed out their first day at the Easton Showcase with a 7-2 win over the Pacific Tigers (7-5). Seniors Linda Swarts and Stacy Gemeinhardt were the stars of the game, tallying half of the Tigers nine hits between them.

Pacific opened the scoring in the bottom of the first inning. Two runs scored on a Kelly Lowry double to left field. Missouri answered back and tied the game in the top of the third. Dara Throneburg started the inning with a single to second base. Mary McGrane reached base on an error by the Pacific first baseman and Throneburg advanced to third. Sara McNeal then came in to pinch run for McGrane and stole second. Gemeinhardt hit a two RBI-single to the second baseman to score Throneburg and McNeal and tie the game at 2-2.

Missouri wasn't about to stop there. Linda Swarts scored in the fourth inning on an Amy Farmer RBI single to right field. In the fifth, Swarts drove a homer over the fence with two outs and two runners on to put her team up 6-2.

Missouri scored their final run in the sixth inning. After two runners reached base on errors by the second baseman and pitcher, Gemeinhardt slammed a single into left field to score Lindsey Jacoby.

Ingrid Werner picked up the win for the Tigers. Her record moves to 4-3.

Missouri plays San Jose State tomorrow at noon PT and No. 11, the host, Cal State-Fullerton at 4 p.m. PT.
