The Missouri Tigers (6-7, 1-2) found themselves in their second consecutive five-game match, but this time came out with a victory. With strong play from Missouri's freshmen, the Tigers beat the Oklahoma Sooners (6-7, 1-2) 3-2 (9-15, 15-10, 7-15, 16-14, 16-14).
"We had such momentum going into the fifth game," head coach Disa Johnson said. "Our confidence level was very high."
Freshman Christi Myers continued her domination, offensively, tying her career high 22 kills. She finished the match hitting .571. Freshman Rachel Rieble also stepped up for the Tigers, hitting .333. She was hitting .526 prior to the final game where she recorded her only two errors of the night. She also added a career high 10 kills and five service aces.
The Tigers found themselves down 14-7 in the fourth game, but crawled their way back to take the match to five games. Redshirt freshman Lisa Morris started the serving drive that led to a 13-13 tie. For the final three points, Missouri kept up its confidence, getting the final point on a block assist by Morris and junior Annette Luyten.
"There are plenty of teams that come back from deficits like that. That is what we have practiced for. Everyone just believed that they could do it, and they did," Johnson said. "This win was a gigantic step for us and will push us in a new direction. My hat is off to the players. They definitely earned (the win)."
