
Peterson Adds Another Award to Resume

Mallorca, Spain - University of Missouri standout runner Derrick Peterson spent the weekend competing at the World University Games representing the United States and earning a bronze medal in his specialty, the 800-meter run. The two-time NCAA champion completed the distance in 1:47.11, just three-tenths of a second off of the winning time by a Cuban runner, 1:46.80.
Peterson, who is undefeated in Big 12 competition, competed in the preliminary heats on Friday (July 9) winning his heat with a time of 1:49.97 qualifying him for Saturday's semifinal heats. On Saturday (July 10), in the semifinal heats, Peterson ran one of the top-eight times qualifying for Sunday's final.
The competition at the World University Games is comprised of athletes from around the world that are entering college (at least 17 years of age), currently enrolled in college or one year out of college (no older than 28 years of age) and all the athletes must be amateurs. There are over 125 countries represented at the games which are modeled after the Olympic Games. The University Games take place every two years in the odd-numbered years, both in the summer and winter.
