COLUMBIA, Mo.- The Big 12 Conference announced today that Missouri sophomore catcher Jon Williams and senior pitcher Chris George have been named the Big 12 Player and Pitcher of the Week. George shares the pitching honor with Texas A&M's Casey Fossum.
Williams went 10-for-16 (.600) for the week with three RBI and three doubles. He went 9-for-14 this past weekend against Nebraska whom the Tigers took two games of three. George dominated the 21st ranked Cornhuskers on Saturday giving up just one run on five hits while striking out a career-high 10. Nebraska was ranked in the top 15 in country in hitting and were ranked fourth in runs scored per game with over 11 per contest.
Williams and George are the fourth and fifth Missouri players to be honored by the Big 12 this season. J.R. Warner and Ryan Stegall have both been named the Player of the Week while Jody Harris was tabbed Pitcher of the Week.
