
Tigers Suffer First Defeat to SEMO

COLUMBIA, Mo.- Paula Corder scored 34 points and Southeast Missouri State benefited from 33 trips to the free throw line as SEMO handed Missouri their first loss of the season, 90-71, at the Show Me Center in Cape Girardeau, Mo. on Tuesday night. The Tigers shot just 33 percent in the second half while SEMO shot 53 percent leading to a 50-point second half outburst.
Missouri trailed by a score of 40-37 at the half. SEMO's Corder poured in 20 of her 34 points before the break. With the Tigers battling foul trouble, freshman Natalie Bright gave MU a lift with 9 points in 10 minutes off the bench in the half.
The difference in the game was the foul situation in the second half. SEMO went to the foul line 23 times in the second half to just six trips for Missouri. Corder and freshman Pam Iverson (16 pts., 14 rebounds) went a combined 16-16 from the charity stripe. The Tigers were led in scoring by Julie Helm with 19 points while Bright added 18, her first collegiate points of her career. Kesha Bonds added 13 points and 9 rebounds while matching a career-best in steals with six.
The Tigers (1-1) travel to Iowa City, Ia. for Thanksgiving to battle Iowa and Princeton in the Hawkeye Classic this weekend.
