
Tigers Hammer Truman State

COLUMBIA, Mo.- The Missouri Tigers improved their record to 2-0 on the 1999 season with a 22-10 victory over Truman State at Simmons Field in Columbia on Monday. The Tigers used an eight-run fifth inning and a nine-run seventh to help seal the win. Mizzou starting pitcher Ryan Jamison was the winner as he struck out 10 hitters in five innings of work.
Missouri opened the scoring in the second inning when freshman Ryan Stegall (2-for-3, 4 RBI) slugged his first career home run over the right field wall to give the Tigers a 3-0 lead. Truman State answered in the third inning with a three-run blast by Tony Vandemore (3-for-5, 5 RBI) to tie the game 3-3.
After Truman State took a 4-3 lead in the top of the fifth inning, Mizzou bounced Bulldog reliever Dave Block for eight runs in the fifth. Mike Rallo slugged a three home run and Nick Wilfong (2-for-5, 4 RBI) doubled in three runs in the frame.
After each team tallied two runs a piece in the sixth inning, Mizzou hammered home nine more runs in the seventh stanza. Freshmen Luke Cassis and Joe Rooney each collected their first career base hits in the inning while Wes Fewell and W. T. Hoover each collected their first career RBI.
Aaron Wilson and Jake Epstein each had four hits for the Tigers. Mizzou wheeled out six pitchers, including three freshmen: Brian Ackerson, P.J. McGinnis and Matt Hobbs, all of whom made their collegiate debuts.
