Columbia, Mo. - The Missouri Tigers closed their exhibition season with a 77-47 victory over the Philippine National Team.
Missouri held the visiting nationals to a 36.4 field goal percentage on the night, and enjoyed a 39-25 rebounding advantage to notch the win. Senior guard John Woods led all scorers with 17 points on 7-of-10 field goals, including 3-of-4 from three-point range.
Junior forward Jeff Hafer returned to the lineup, after missing last week's exhibition opener due to a groin pull, and contributed 10 points and five rebounds (all on the offensive end). Fellow junior Albert White had an off-shooting night (2-of-9 FGs for 4 points), but led the Tigers with game-high totals of eight rebounds and seven assists.
MU jumped out to a quick 11-0 lead just over three minutes into the game, and led by as much as 19 points in the first half. MU led 37-21 at the half.
The Tigers opened the second stanza with a 15-6 run over the first five-and-a-half minutes to extend the lead to 25, at 52-27 with 14:37 remaining.
It was back-and-forth from that point, and the Tigers' final points were scored on a layup by walk-on Kenge Stevenson, playing in his first game as a Tiger.
Missouri opens its 1998-99 regular season this Friday, as the Tigers play host to Jackson State. Tipoff at the Hearnes Center is scheduled for 8:00 p.m., central time.
