COLUMBIA, Mo. - The Missouri Tigers (34-17) celebrated the ground-breaking of their new stadium by defeating Bradley (26-28) by a score of 9-3 at Simmons Field on Friday night. Missouri held ground breaking ceremonies before the game to honor Ralph and Debbie Taylor who donated $1 million to the stadium project.
Justin Stine (9-3) pitched 7 2/3 innings for Missouri and notched his 28th career victory placing the senior left-hander in second place on the all-time Missouri list. Stine scattered four hits and allowed just one earned run while striking out eight. Stine now has 299 career strikeouts.
Bradley led 1-0 in the second inning before the Tigers tied the game 1-1. Missouri took a 2-1 lead in the third inning on an RBI single by Aaron Wilson that scored W.T. Hoover.
Hoover was the offensive story for the Tigers as he went 4-for-4 and scored three runs. All four of Hoover's hits were doubles, setting a new Missouri single-game record.
The Tigers tallied five runs in the fifth inning and knocked Bradley starter Evan Fahrner (6-3) out of the game. Mike Rallo had the big hit of the inning with a two-run single. The Tigers added single runs in the sixth and seventh innings. The Mizzou run in the seventh was courtesy of a solo home run by Nick Wilfong, his sixth of the season.
Missouri will play its final home game at the old Simmons Field on Saturday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. against Bradley.
