
Missouri Track Men and Women Win Tom Botts Invitational

Columbia, Mo. - The Missouri Tiger Track and Field men and women earned team victories at the 3rd Annual Tom Botts Invitational. Missouri's women scored 201.5 points overall, finishing well ahead of meet runner-up Illinois State, which ended with 164.5 points. Third place among the women went to Mississippi with 140 points and Michigan State ended the meet with 75.
MU's men also earned an outdoor victory, scoring a total of 195 points overall. Illinois State again finished second with 153, Michigan State took third with 135, and Mississippi earned 121 for fourth place.
The Tigers totaled nine individual victories in the men's and women's events, highlighted by strong performances from Tiger all-Americans Derrick Peterson, Darin File and Ashley Wysong. Peterson, the reigning NCAA Indoor Champion in the 800m, ran a Tom Botts meet record time of 1:48.28 in the 800m. The time was also Peterson's second provisional qualifying mark of the outdoor season. Senior javelin man and two-time all-American Darin File recorded a 224-11 throw, notching first place and his second provisional qualifying distance in as many meets. Wysong won the women's 800m in 2:12.25, an event where she was an NCAA all-American during the indoor season.
Other individual first palce honors for the Tigers went to Christina Page (400m), Katie Meyer (1500m), Jill Osenbaugh (Long Jump), Tracey Holloman (javelin), Micah Shanks (shot put), and Darrell Meinke (discus). Missouri's Jill Aholt (100m Hurdles) and John Cunningham (400m) also notched first place in two of the three non-scored events.
MU will next compete at the Mt. SAC Relays in Walnut, California next week and then travel to the prestigious Drake Relays April 23-34. The Tigers then host a U.S. Collegiate Series meet on Saturday, May 1 when Nebraska, Kansas State, and Southern Illinois visit the Audrey J. Walton Track Soccer Stadium.
