Saturday's football game at Memorial Stadium/Faurot Field between the top-ranked Kansas State Wildcats and the No. 19 Missouri Tigers has been declared a complete sellout. Ticket windows will not be open on Saturday.
It will be Missouri's first sellout in more than a decade, and is the first time in memory that a football game in Columbia has sold out 48 hours prior to the event.
"This is a very significant step for our program," Athletic Director Mike Alden said. "Our fans are to be commended for responding to the competitive spirit demonstrated by our football team all season. It was Missouri fans who made this happen.
"Secondly, we hope that sellout crowds like this are going to become the expectation at Missouri and not the exception."
The announced crowd for Saturday's game will be 68,174. The biggest previous crowd since 1984 was last year's Nebraska game that drew 66,846. Additionally, more than 530 credentials have been issued to the media for Saturday's contest.
Missouri has had 10 crowds in excess of 70,000 in its history, but the stadium in its current configuration cannot accommodate crowds that large. MU discontinued use of five rows of field-level, limited-view seats some years ago, and those rows were removed in 1995 when the playing surface was converted to grass. Also in 1995, the stadium capacity was reduced by 2,300 seats when MU provided additional accessible seating in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act. The stadium could also hold more temporary bleachers in the past than the 2,300 that were erected this week.
Alden is encouraging fans to arrive early for the 2:30 p.m. kickoff to avoid congested traffic and parking and long lines at the stadium's entry gates.
