AUSTIN, Texas (AP) - Albert White scored 23 points to lead Missouri to a 54-47 win over No. 22 Texas Saturday, assuring the Tigers a first-round bye in the Big 12 tournament.
Texas (18-11, 13-3 Big 12) had already won the Big 12 regular season title earlier in the week and earned a first-round bye for next week's conference tournament.
Missouri (20-7, 11-5) was still battling for a favorable position in the Big 12 tournament. While a loss could have dropped the Tigers all the way to No. 6 in the Big 12 tournament, the win means the Tigers can finish no worst than fourth.
White scored Missouri's first eight points on his way to 16 in the first half as the Tigers took a 29-24 lead.
Texas closed to within 31-30 with 15:57 left before Missouri used a 9-0 run over the next three minutes to go up 40-30.
An Ivan Wagner 3-pointer sparked a 13-2 Texas run and the Longhorns took their first lead at 43-42 when Wagner knocked the ball away from Brian Grawer and Kris Clack picked it up and went in for dunk with 5:20 left.
Missouri retook the lead for good at 47-45 on a John Woods 3-pointer with 1:53 left before Woods and White sealed the game with five free throws in final 42 seconds. Woods finished with 13 points.
Missouri shot just 38 percent from the field but forced 21 Texas turnovers and kept the Longhorns off the foul line.
White was 8 of 10 from the foul line as the Tigers were 16 of 23 as a team. Texas, which had been to the foul line at least 100 more times than the other Big 12 teams this season, was just 3 of 9 from the line.
Gabe Muoneke led Texas with 11 points and Chris Mihm added 10 points and 16 rebounds, 15 of them on the defensive end.
