Columbia, Mo. -- University of Missouri freshman guard KEYON DOOLING injured his right hip in practice today, and may not be able to play in Wednesday's Chase NIT contest against Southwest Missouri State. Dooling injured himself early in practice, when he landed after attempting a layin.
His injury is being diagnosed as a right hip muscle strain, as well as a capsule strain, which is the ligament that connects to the hip muscle. Precautionary x-rays were taken, but results came back negative, meaning no serious damage. Dooling ended the day on crutches for precautionary measures.
Team Athletic Trainer Pat Beckmann said the injury will be a day-to-day item, and that Dooling will be treated and re-evaluated tomorrow. Head Coach Norm Stewart wasn't sure when Dooling might return to the court. "Since he's on crutches, I'd have to say he's probably doubtful to play Wednesday night," Stewart said. "It all depends on how fast he responds to the treatment."
Dooling, the pre-season Big 12 Conference Freshman-of-the-Year, as voted by league coaches and media, scored 12 points and added a game-high six assists in his Tiger debut last Friday, as he helped lead MU to a resounding 87-46 win over Jackson State.
