COLUMBIA, MO. ___ -- Curtis Jones Jr. is the University of Missouri's new director of football operations, Head Coach Larry Smith announced today. He replaces Mike McHugh, who resigned recently to become assistant athletic director at the University of Oregon.
Jones, 25, has been employed most recently for Zipatoni, a sales promotion company, where he worked with the Miller Brewing account.
"I'm excited to have Curtis join our staff," Smith said. "He's a very bright individual who will bring a lot of ideas and enthusiasm to the program." He'll work in all administrative phases of the Missouri football program.
Jones holds a bachelor of arts degree in sociology from Dartmouth College (1995) and a master of arts degree in advertising from the University of Missouri (1997). While pursuing his graduate degree at MU he worked as an intern in Mizzou's sports marketing office. He played baseball during his undergraduate days at Dartmouth.
"College athletics is near and dear to my heart," Jones said. "I knew I wanted to get back to sports someday, I just didn't think it would be this soon. I'm excited because (Director of Athletics) Mike Alden has pretty much told me he wants me to take this position and run with it. It will give me the experience to do about anything I want to do in athletics down the road. I'm sure I'll learn a lot."
Jones is the eldest son of former MU assistant football coach Curtis Jones, who passed away last July, and the brother of former Tiger quarterback Corby Jones. He'll begin work on May 24.
