
Cross Country Concludes Season at NCAA Championships

COLUMBIA, MO., Nov. 22 __The University of Missouri's men's and women's cross country teams concluded their respective seasons on Monday afternoon at the NCAA Championships in Bloomington, Ind. The women, who placed second at in their region last week, finished in 23rd place. The Tigers finished with a score of 480 points. The men, also coming off a second place regional finish, placed 28th with a score of 556.
Senior Anna Gullingsrud paced the women with a 71st place finish in a time of 17 minutes, 49.20 seconds. Sophomore Kim Moore was the second Tiger to cross the finish line. Moore placed 109th in a time of 18 minutes, 4.34 seconds. Freshman Amy Chipman (122nd, 18:09.30), sophomore Ann Marie Brooks (132nd, 18:13.10) and junior Katie Meyer (182nd, 18:32.70) rounded out Missouri's top five.
It was a disappointing finish for the young Tiger runners, but coach Jeff Pigg was still happy with the way the season went.
"We had another good year," said Pigg. "If we hit perfect, we are going to be a top 10 team. We have nothing to be ashamed of, but we still have an empty feeling."
Brigham Young won the women's national title with a team score of 72 points. Arkansas edged out Stanford for second place with 125 points.
