Missouri (6-10, 1-5) had trouble controlling the ball, falling in three games (6-15, 9-15, 7-15) to the eighth ranked Texas Longhorns (11-2, 5-0). The Tigers were unable to give the Longhorns their first conference loss of the season.
Junior Annette Luyten put it perfectly, "Instead of pushing forward, we pulled back."
Missouri hit .063 to Texas' .283 and made 32 attacking errors to the Longhorns 16. It was not the first time the Tigers have been their own worst enemy. "You can't let repetitive errors happen," coach Disa Johnson said. "You have to make the right changes. We didn't do that."
The only Tiger close to hitting double digits in kills was Luyten who finished with eight. The middle blocker put up a good defensive night with 15 digs, adding an offensive attack of .217. Fellow junior Heather Gerber led the team for the first time in hitting percentage, averaging .333 for the match. She also added five digs.
However, Missouri did manage to keep Texas out of their blocking game. The Longhorns, who are second in the conference, had just nine team blocks to the Tigers seven. The Tigers are ranked 10th in blocking.
"We have to prepare better for matches," Gerber added matter-of-factly. "We need to take care of our side. We didn't make Texas do anything."
