COLUMBIA, Mo. - It was a fight to the finish for the Missouri Tigers (6-9, 1-4) and the No. 16 Kansas State Wildcats (11-2, 5-0). Unfortunately the Wildcats went home with the 3-0 victory (17-15, 15-11, 15-8)
The match was a slow one, offensively, for both teams. Kansas State hit .135 while Missouri hit .036, both season lows for each team. However, the Tigers put up a solid effort defensively, putting down 12 team blocks to the Wildcats three. Missouri also had four players with double figures in digs, a team total of 59.
"It was a great defensive game, by far our best blocking, digging and serving match combined," coach Disa Johnson said. "Unforced errors was the problem. There just wasn't good tempo in our offense. We weren't sharp."
"We came out ready to play," sophomore right side hitter Naaron Branson said. "We just need to finish. We need to stay on fire for the entire match."
Missouri jumped out to early leads in the first two games, but let them slip away. Key players in the match for the Tigers were redshirt freshman Lisa Morris and junior Annette Luyten. Morris recorded a double-double with 11 kills and 11 digs while Luyten added her own double-double with 12 kills and 11 digs. Luyten also recorded seven block assists and three solo blocks.
The Tigers play host to No. 8 Texas on Friday. Texas currently leads the all-time series 6-0.
