Seven Cross Country Athletes Named To Academic Team

A total of five women and two men have been named to the Cross Country Academic All-Big 12 Team by the conference office today. The total is up one from last years six honorees.
Of the Tigers selected, four were named to the All-Conference women's first team. To qualify for the first team, student-athletes must maintain a 3.2 or higher grade point average either cumulative or over the two previous semesters while participating in 60 percent of his or her teams scheduled performances. A student-athlete named to the second team meets the same participation requirements, but must maintain a 3.0 to 3.19 GPA also either cumulative or over the two previous semesters. Freshman and transfer students are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.
The four women named to the Academic All-Conference first team are: Ann Marie Brooks, St. Joseph, Mo., a sophomore majoring in Parks and Recreation, Sunny Gilbert, Ellisville, Mo., a junior majoring in biochemistry, Katie Meyer, Collinsville, Ill., a junior majoring in political science and Katie Sekinger, Curtice, Ohio, a redshirt freshman majoring in human development and family studies. Brooks, Gilbert and Meyer also were named to the Academic All-Big 12 first team during the 1998 cross country season as well as the 1999 track and field season.
Kim Moore, Kirkwood, Mo., a sophomore majoring in human nutrition and foods was named to the Academic All-League second team. For the men, Ryan Fitzgerald, Kansas City, Mo., a sophomore majoring in business and Joel McCune, Springfield, Mo., a junior majoring in parks, recreation and tourism were named to the Academic All-Big 12 second team.
