Dooling Selected to USA Basketball Team

July 8, 1999

Tempe, Ariz. - University of Missouri guard KEYON DOOLING has been selected to the 1999 USA Basketball Men's Junior World Championship Team today, as announced by USA Basketball. Dooling is one of just 12 players to make the team, which was pared from 16 in the final trials held this week (June 3-8) in Tempe, Ariz., and from an original cast of 50 which began the tryout process back in May. The USA is one of 16 teams which will compete in the FIBA Junior World Championships, to be held July 15-25 in Portugal.

Dooling, the runner-up for Big 12 Conference freshman-of-the-year honors in 1999, will be making his second go-around on the international scene. Last year, he helped lead the USA to a gold medal at the COPABA Junior World Championship Qualifying Tournament. Dooling averaged 7.8 points a game in the tournament, starting all six games in the USA's perfect 6-0 run. The Fort Lauderdale, Fla. native played in 28 games last season as a freshman at Mizzou, and averaged 8.7 points and 3.1 assists per contest. He twice won Big 12 rookie-of-the-week honors during the season.

The USA team departs for Portugal on July 9, and will train there for its first-round matchup with China, on July 15. The USA is in Group B, and will also face Greece (July 16) and Egypt (July 17). The top two teams in the group will advance to the second round.
