A five-time all-American and six-time Big Eight Conference champion, local Columbia product Lorinda Richardson was the Big Eight Conference Female Athlete-of-the-Year in 1988. She set the league record in the long jump at 21-feet, 7-1/2 inches, and placed three times in the long jump at the U.S. Olympic Festival. She still holds the MU long jump records and ran on four relay teams that set school marks. She won league titles in the 100-meter dash (twice), 55-meter dash, long jump (twice) and 60-yard dash. Richardson was academic all-Big Eight as a senior.
