Eierman pinned two-time NCAA Champion Dean Heil in Mizzou’s 21-19 win over No. 5 Oklahoma State
COLUMBIA, Mo. – Following a win over the two-time defending NCAA Champion, redshirt sophomore 141-pounder Jaydin Eierman (Columbia, Mo.) was named the Mid-American Conference and NCAA Wrestler of the Week, announced by the organizations Wednesday. Eierman pinned No. 5-ranked Dean Heil on Saturday (Jan. 27), helping vault Mizzou to a 21-19 win over No. 5 Oklahoma State, its first win in Stillwater since 2009.

It is the first time in Eierman's career he has been given the conference's top weekly nod, and the fourth time this season a Mizzou wrestler has been named the Wrestler of the Week after redshirt junior 174-pounder Daniel Lewis (Blue Springs) was named on Nov. 22 and Dec. 21, and redshirt junior 149-pounder Grant Leeth was named last week on Jan. 24.
Eierman fell to Heil twice in 2016-17, but made the most of his matchup with the three-time All-American in their first match this season, as Eierman was able to put Heil to his back in the second period for the six-point victory. The Tigers, who trailed the Cowboys, 9-0, heading into the bout, built momentum off Eierman's victory, winning five of the next six bouts to claim victory over Oklahoma State.
Eierman, who earned NCAA All-America honors and was named the MAC Freshman of the Year in 2016-17, is currently 22-1 on the season, including a 13-0 mark in duals, and has recorded 11 falls, four major decisions and two technical falls. Among team leaders, Eierman ranks second in falls (11), third in major decisions (four), third in wins (22), and third in dual points (67).
Mizzou returns to action Friday, Feb. 2, when the Tigers travel to Northern Illinois for its final MAC dual of the season. The dual is slated to start at 7 p.m. (CT), and will be broadcast on ESPN3.
