Tigers and Crimson Tide tip off at 8 p.m. CT on ESPN2

Mizzou Men's Basketball (13-8, 3-5) heads to Alabama (14-7, 5-3) for the second of back-to-back Southeastern Conference road games on Wednesday, Jan. 31, with tipoff coming at 8 p.m. CT from Tuscaloosa, Alabama, on ESPN2 and the Tiger Radio Network.

Story Lines

  • The Tigers travel to Alabama for the fifth-straight season, only not making the trip to Tuscaloosa during Mizzou's inaugural season in the SEC. Mizzou took on Alabama in the program's first-ever SEC game, winning at home by a score of 84-68 (Jan. 8, 2013).
  • Mizzou is the No. 2 free throw shooting team in the SEC, hitting on 79.7 percent of its foul shots (114-of-143) through the first eight games of the league schedule.
  • Head coach Cuonzo Martin's Mizzou squad has added 13 wins to his career total thus far, bringing that mark up to 199 victories as a head coach across his 10 seasons.
  • Martin has installed his patented defensive approach, while also shaping a sharp-shooting squad. Mizzou ranks in the nation's Top 50 in both off. (54.9, 40th) and def. (46.4, 24th) effective FG percentage.
  • Graduate senior guard Kassius Robertson has averaged 15.7 points per game overall, a total that sets him apart as the nation's highest-scoring graduate transfer at the high major level (as of Jan. 27).
  • The Tigers were narrowly edged by Alabama in the latest meeting between the two schools, 57-54, on Feb. 15, 2017, at Mizzou Arena. Kevin Puryear scored 11 points, while Jordan Barnett grabbed 12 rebounds. The Black & Gold also yielded a 68-56 result to Alabama in Tuscaloosa (Jan. 18, 2017).
  • The Tigers' 189 three-pointers rank as the second-most in school history through 21 games, four triples behind the 1999-2000 season (193). Mizzou hit 185 treys in 2001-02, for the third-highest mark. Over the entire 2016-17 season, Mizzou made 225 three-pointers.


Scouting Alabama

  • Mizzou will play its third road game in four contests when the Tigers travel to Alabama to face the Crimson Tide at 8 p.m. CT on Wednesday, Jan. 31. The Crimson Tide have won five of their last six games entering the tilt with the Tigers, including an 80-73 upset over then-No. 11 Oklahoma on Saturday, Jan. 27).
  • The win over the Sooners was the third ranked win of the season for Alabama, as the freshman duo of Collin Sexton and Herbert Jones led them to victory with 18 and 14 points, respectively.
  • Prior to a 78-66 loss at Ole Miss (Jan. 23), Alabama won four-straight SEC games, defeating South Carolina, 76-62 (Jan. 9), LSU, 74-66 (Jan. 13), Auburn, 76-71 (Jan. 17) and Mississippi State, 68-62 (Jan. 20).
  • Four from Alabama enter Wednesday's game averaging double-figures, led by Sexton's 18.5 points per game. Freshman guard John Petty is second at 11.8 points per game, while sophomore Dazon Ingram averages 11.0 points and junior Donta Hall averages 10.9 points per game.


Kash Money

  • Graduate senior guard Kassius Robertson is averaging a solid 15.7 points per game, a total that ranks No. 1 among graduate transfers playing at the high major level. That total stands as fifth-best overall among all graduate transfers across NCAA Division I.
  • Robertson is one of four players in the SEC averaging 15.0 points per game while shooting at least 40.0 percent from the field, 40.0 percent from three-point range and 80.0 from the free throw line.
  • Robertson's 61 three-pointers on the season has cracked the program's all-time Top 10 for deep range makes by a senior at 10th-best. The next ladder rung, No. 9 all-time, are the 66 sank by former Big Eight Player of the Year Melvin Booker during his standout senior campaign in 1993-94.
  • Robertson had his best game to-date as a Tiger, as he scored a season-high 26 points at Arkansas (Jan. 13) and posted season-bests in field goals made (9), three-pointers (6), rebounds (8) and steals (3).

Notes from Mississippi State

  • Graduate senior guard Kassius Robertson scored 20 points for his second-straight game reaching the 20-point barrier and his seventh game scoring 20 points total this season. The effort was additionally his 17th game with 10-or-more points this season.
  • Robertson scored 21 points against Auburn (Jan. 24) in Mizzou's previous contest, giving him 20.5 points per game over the Tigers' last two matchups and 16.6 points per game in conference play.
  • Robertson sank 3-of-7 three-point field goal attempts for his 16th game this season with multiple three-pointers and the 79th of his career.
  • Freshman forward Jeremiah Tilmon recorded two blocks for his seventh game this season with multiple blocks. Tilmon's effort also brought his season block total to 20, which ranks sixth-best all-time on Mizzou's freshman single-season chart.
