Lock's 7 TD's, Tigers' 815 yards set school records
COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou Football defeated in-state foe Missouri State, 72-43, on Saturday afternoon at Memorial Stadium in the 2017 season opener. Junior QB Drew Lock (Lee's Summit, Mo.) had a career day in setting school records of seven passing touchdowns and 541 yards, and amassing 515 yards of total offense.
Mizzou used 393 passing yards to hang 48 points by halftime and then used a potent ground game in the second half to pull away. The defense opened the second half with three straight stops against the visiting team, and allowed just 72 yards of offense in the quarter. Freshman RB Damarea Crockett (Little Rock, Ark.) then took over, carrying 18 times for 202 yards and a pair of touchdowns. He becomes the first Tiger to rush for 200 yards in back-to-back games.
Key Moment
Mizzou needed just one play to set the tone for the offense. Drew Lock threw a quick sideline pass to sophomore WR Jonathan Johnson (Memphis, Tenn.), who then raced 65 yards for the score on the game's first play from scrimmage. Johnson finished the day with five catches for 116 yards and a pair of touchdowns.
