Cox holds a bye to the 86 kg finals after winning Olympic Bronze
Columbia, Mo. – Four wrestlers with Mizzou Wrestling ties will grapple for a spot on the 2017 USA World Team on Saturday at the World Team Trials in Lincoln, Neb. Missouri Wrestling Foundation wrestlers J'den Cox (86 kg), Alan Waters (57 kg), Jaydin Eierman (65 kg) and Canten Marriott (84 kg), as well former Mizzou wrestler Dom Bradley (125 kg) will all take the mat in hopes of earning a spot on the US national team for the 2017 World Championships, which will take place August 21-26 in Paris, France.
FloWrestling will provide a live stream of the event on Saturday from the Bob Devaney Center. Preliminary rounds are slated to begin at 10 a.m. CT, followed by the best-of-three finals series at 6 p.m. CT.
After winning bronze at the 2016 Rio Olympics, Cox will have a bye to the best-of-three finals in the 86 kg bracket. The trials will be the first time Cox has competed since capturing his third NCAA title in March, becoming the first wrestler in Mizzou history to win three NCAA titles. The four-time All-American was recently ranked No. 5 at 86 kg in the United World Wrestling (UWW) Men's Freestyle world rankings.
Bradley, who finished third in April's U.S. Open, is ranked No. 15 at 125 kg in the UWW Men's Freestyle world rankings and will be the 3-seed to open Saturday's competition. Waters finished sixth in the U.S. Open to clinch his spot at the World Team Trials, while Eierman did so at a Last Chance Qualifier Tournament in May.
Marriott, who finished his redshirt season with Mizzou this past year, will wrestle at 84 kg in the junior men's freestyle division.
