Amateur Wrestling News Release
COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou Wrestling redshirt freshman 165-pounder Daniel Lewis (Blue Springs, Mo.) was named to the Amateur Wrestling News All-Rookie Team, announced by the publication on Wednesday. Lewis capped his first season as an attached wrestler for #TigerStyle with a fourth-place finish at the NCAA Tournament, garnering All-American honors and winning the MAC Freshman Wrestler of the Year.
Lewis posted a 29-6 record in 2015-16, scoring 10 falls (eight in the first period), tied for most on the team. The Blue Springs High School product went 12-2 in duals, 6-0 in MAC duals, and won the 165 pound MAC Championship on March 6 in Ypsilanti, Mich. Lewis was given the "Most Falls in the Least Amount of Time" Award at the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational on Dec. 5 after scoring five first-period pins and finishing third at the tournament.
With his All-American finish at the NCAA Tournament, Mizzou has had a freshman finish with All-American status for three consecutive seasons following junior J'den Cox's (Columbia, Mo.) National Championship-finish in 2014 and redshirt sophomore Willie Miklus' (Altoona, Iowa) seventh-place finish in 2015.
