Freshmen Morgan Porter and Britney Ward each claimed two wins in the victory
KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The No. 15 Mizzou gymnastics team closed its regular season with a 195.800-195.525 win at Western Michigan Friday night in Kalamazoo, Mich. Freshmen Morgan Porter (Overland, Mo.) and Britney Ward (Ozark, Mo.) each claimed two wins in the victory over the Broncos.
Ward took home the beam title after a 9.925, her fifth 9.9 or higher on the event this season. She also tied sophomore Kennedi Harris (Atlanta, Ga.) for the vault title. Additionally, Porter tied for the floor title and won the all-around crown after a four-event total of 39.325.
The Tigers opened the meet on bars with a 48.950 on the apparatus. Porter paced the squad with a 9.825, while sophomores Shauna Miller (Knoxville, Tenn.) and Becca Schugel (Eagan, Minn.) and freshman Madeleine Huber (St. Louis, Mo.) all notched scores of 9.800.
On vault in the second rotation, Harris and Ward both posted a 9.875 to tie for the event title and help Mizzou to a team tally of 49.150. Freshman Xarria Lewis (Columbia, Mo.) tied her career-best after a 9.825 and junior Angie Kern (Columbia, Mo.) notched a 9.800.
Mizzou notched a 49.150 on floor, its sixth tally of 49 or higher of the 2016 campaign. Porter's 9.875 was good enough to tie for the event win, while Harris was strong with a 9.850. Additionally, freshman Allison Bower (Mesa, Ariz.) posted a 9.825 and Huber and Kern added scores of 9.800.
In the final rotation, Ward claimed her sixth beam crown of the season after a career-high tying 9.925, her fifth tally of 9.925 in 11 meets in 2016. Porter earned a 9.850, while Bower tied her personal-best with a 9.825.
Mizzou travels to North Little Rock, Ark., next week for the 2016 Southeastern Championships on Saturday, March 19. The Tigers will compete in the first session at 1 p.m. at the Verizon Arena.
