MANHEIM, Pa. – No. 5 Mizzou Wrestling (13-2, 8-0 MAC) will head to Lincoln, Nebraska, to face No. 11 Nebraska in the 2016 NWCA Division I National Championship Duals Series, announced by the organization Monday. The dual will take place on Sunday, Feb. 21 in Lincoln, Neb. at 2 p.m. CT in the Devaney Center. The Tigers and Huskers will renew their former Big 12/Big Eight rivalry, wrestling for the first time since Jan. 30, 2011.
This year's National Championship Duals Series is sponsored by the United State Marine Corps and Titan Mercury Wrestling Club.
Last season, under a 16-team tournament format, the Tigers took home the National Duals Championship after defeating Iowa, 18-12, in Iowa City, Iowa, on Feb. 22, 2015. Mizzou defeated American, Illinois, and Lehigh before its win over the Hawkeyes in the finals.
#TigerStyle enters the dual as the 2016 Mid-American Conference Regular Season Champions, winning the award for the second consecutive season after completing the MAC regular season schedule with an unblemished 8-0 record for the second straight season. The Tigers will look to win their fourth consecutive MAC Tournament Championship and fifth conference championship overall (Big 12 Tournament Championship in 2012), March 5-6 in Ypslanti, Michigan.
The Tigers currently have nine wrestlers ranked in the latest edition of the NCAA Coaches' Panel Rankings, announced on Feb. 11. Five Mizzou grapplers rank in the top-six of their weight class, headlined by junior 197-pounder J'den Cox (Columbia, Mo.), who is ranked No. 2 at 197 pounds. Cox is 24-1 on the season and 14-1 in dual competition, tallying 61 points in 14 wins.
The dual between the Tigers and Huskers will be streamed live on the Big Ten Network Plus. For more information and to buy tickets for, visit: www.huskers.com.
