LEXINGTON, Ky. – The No. 15 Mizzou gymnastics team suffered a 196.050-194.675 loss to No. 25 Kentucky on Friday night at Memorial Coliseum in Lexington, Ky. Freshman Britney Ward (Ozark, Mo.) claimed her team-leading eighth event title of the year with a win on vault.
Mizzou opened the meet on bars and scored a 48.800 as a team. Freshman Morgan Porter (Ozark, Mo.) tied for second on the event with a 9.850, her seventh straight meet with a 9.800 or higher on the apparatus. Sophomore Shauna Miller (Knoxville, Tenn.) tied her season best with a 9.800 and freshman Madeleine Huber (Parkville, Mo.) scored a 9.750.
In the second rotation, the Tigers tallied a season high 49.100 led by Ward, who closed the lineup with a 9.875 to win her fourth vault crown of the season. Porter and sophomore Kennedi Harris (Atlanta, Ga.) each went 9.850, while junior Angie Kern (Columbia, Mo.) added a 9.800.
Led by a 9.800 from Porter, the Tigers scored a 48.150 on floor. Kern and freshman Brooke Kelly (Birmingham, Ala.) recorded scores of 9.750 and freshman Allison Bower (Mesa, Ariz.) notched a 9.725.
In the final rotation, Ward tied for second on beam with a 9.875 on the event, her sixth score of 9.850 or higher on the year. Sophomore Becca Schugel (Eagan, Minn.) tied her season high with a 9.825, while Bower added a 9.725.
Mizzou returns to the Hearnes Center on Friday, Feb. 19 as the Tigers host No. 2 Florida at 6 p.m. CT live on the SEC Network.
