Freshman Britney Ward won an SEC weekly honor for the second week in a row
COLUMBIA, Mo. - For the second consecutive week, freshman Britney Ward (Ozark, Mo.) of the No. 16 Mizzou gymnastics team earned weekly honors from the Southeastern Conference, the league announced on Tuesday (Jan. 26). Ward claimed the SEC Freshman of the Week on Tuesday, exactly seven days after earning SEC Specialist of the Week honors.
In Mizzou's win over No. 9 Georgia on Jan. 22, Ward won both the vault and beam titles for the second meet in a row. She tied her career high on beam with a 9.900 to win top honors on the event and scored a 9.875 on vault to tie for the event crown.
It marked the second week in a row Ward placed first on vault and beam, as she also accomplished the feat one week early at No. 6 Alabama. In only four collegiate meets, Ward has three vault and three beam titles to her credit.
Mizzou travels to Fort Worth, Texas, this weekend to compete in the Metroplex Challenge on Saturday, Jan. 30 at 7 p.m. The Tigers will take on No. 2 Oklahoma, No. 6 LSU, No. 12 Stanford and Washington in the five-team, podium meet.
